It was all joy and excitement when reigning Miss Universe and South African beauty queen Zozibini Tunzi visited her alma mater, Canaan Academy in Dutywa, Eastern Cape.

What made her visit extra special and memorable besides hanging out with the enthusiastic students and staff was her tearful surprise reunion with her former classmates, Channel24 reports.

This is also the first time the natural hair diva is in her home country after winning the Miss Universe crown in 2019.

Feeling at home, Zozibini, who was one of the early students to enroll at the school, shared high fives with the excited kids and took selfies with them. A song that was specially made for her was also performed and a poem in her honor was recited. She shared a lovely video on Twitter with an emotional caption which had tears and heart emojis.

The school’s headmistress was also full of praises for the 26-year-old, telling Channel24 she always knew she “had something special.”

The director of the school also said: “We have been extremely excited, waiting for this day to arrive. This young lady has done us proud. We asked the Department of Education to grant permission for children from neighbouring schools to come and see Zozi. She is such a role model for the entire community, and we want all the youngsters to meet her and be inspired by her.”

He added: “Zozi has brought great honour to the school, but everyone from her year has gone on to do very well. We groomed those pioneers and are proud of them; all of Zozi’s grade one class have made it to tertiary education, and we have produced doctors, engineers, town planners and auditors.”
