Nick Cannon recently extended his family by welcoming his 12th child with Alyssa Scott. Besides the latter, Cannon, 42, also shares children with Bre Tiesi, LaNisha Cole, Brittany Bell, Abby de la Rosa, and his ex-wife Mariah Carey.

But it seems like Cannon’s ever-extending family tree is making Carey, who shares 11-year-old twins with the Wild ‘n Out star, think twice about the joint custody agreement she has with him, RadarOnline.com reported.

A source told the news outlet that the award-winning singer intends to file a petition seeking primary custody of their twins even though there are no issues with their current joint custody agreement. Cannon and Carey were married from 2008 to 2016.

“The reality of the situation is that Monroe and Moroccan [their twins] are usually with Mariah anyway. Nick doesn’t see much of them,” the source said. The source said Cannon is, however, a loving father who puts in the effort to see the twins whenever he can.

“But she wants to put him on notice that he can’t just flit in and out of their lives while he attends to his other children. And she wants legal standing as the twins’ primary caregiver,” the source added.

The source also noted that the Always be My Baby singer seeking primary custody of their twins isn’t her way of punishing Cannon, adding that Carey is doing what she thinks is best for the children.

Carey’s intention to seek full custody of the twins also reportedly comes after sources said she asked Cannon to make more time for their children. Although Cannon is a father of many, he told PEOPLE in a previous interview that he’s “so excited” about all his kids.

“Constantly, from every aspect of it. From them getting citizen of the month awards in the first grade to the birth of the new ones. Every day I just wake up excited as a father,” he said.
