Hollywood star and artist Will Smith commended his daughter’s latest achievement after she became the first in their musical family to hit one billion streams. He expressed his excitement on social media on Wednesday, posting a snapshot of Willow Smith‘s song “Wait a Minute!” with the comment, “@willowsmith is the first person in the family to have a song with a BILLION streams!!”
According to HipHopDx, the song was released in 2015 as the second single from her debut album, Ardipithecus. Though Will has yet to reach a billion streams, his hit song “Summertime” and its remixes have had about 137 million listens on Spotify, distributed among the song’s appearances on studio albums and compilations.
Meanwhile, his son Jaden’s song “RITMO (Bad Boys For Life) (Remix)” featuring Black Eyed Peas and J Balvin has received over 939 million Spotify streams, according to the publication.
This current achievement comes after Willow made history in 2023 by becoming the first artist to get an NFT plaque from the Recording Industry Association of America.
She was awarded the trophy in celebration of her 2010 breakout single “Whip My Hair” going triple platinum, her singles “Wait A Minute!” and “Meet Me At Our Spot” going double platinum, and her Travis Barker-assisted “Transparent Soul” going platinum.
Roc Nation, Infinite Objects, Willow, and her label commissioned the artwork on the plaque.
“I am beyond grateful to have the opportunity to engage in the sacred process that is music,” Willow Smith stated in a May 2023 press release. “BIG LOVE to RIAA and Infinite Objects! I am so honored to be able to celebrate these milestones in such an innovative way.”
