Supporting the poor and vulnerable: Every African state is burdened with the horrors of abject poverty and deprivation. In fact, according to the World Bank’s Poverty Ratio Headcount, over 50 percent of persons in sub-Saharan Africa live on less than a dollar a day. Prospective presidents who sincerely care for their citizens must commit to putting in place the best social interventions to ensure that the poor and vulnerable are cushioned. Some ways to achieve this include an effective national health insurance policy, gender equality intervention program for women and girls or programmes to stimulate the economy, thereby easing the number of unemployed persons.
