Keionna McGowan has been charged in connection with the death of a neighbor, who was allegedly shot after a fight about loud music.
According to WITI-TV, the 27-year-old Wisconsin woman was charged with one count of second-degree reckless homicide in connection with the shooting death of 41-year-old dentist Akintunde Bowden.
According to a criminal complaint obtained by the outlet, Brown Deer police officers were dispatched to an apartment complex on April 19 to investigate a report of shots fired. A woman who was later identified as McGowan shouted, “Help!” when they got there. “He’s in my house, number 207.”
According to the criminal complaint, police discovered a man with a gunshot wound to his lower abdomen lying face down in the apartment’s entrance. They made several attempts to save him but were unsuccessful.
According to reports, McGowan told detectives that she was listening to music inside her apartment when she heard “loud, aggressive banging” on the door. According to The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, she opened the peephole on her door and saw a “large man who appeared to be intoxicated,” who begged her to turn down the music. She obliged and closed the door.
But according to the criminal complaint, she claimed that Bowden returned and kicked her door. When he tried to kick her door once again, she allegedly reached for her gun and shot him.
Police interrogated Theresa Bell, Bowden’s fiancée, who told them she and Bowden lived in the apartment below McGowan’s and that she had been out that night with her mother to attend a concert. According to court records obtained by the outlets, she last contacted Bowden via FaceTime at around 10:30 p.m.
Per WITI-TV, Bell said her fiancé had never confronted her about the person who lived above them playing music too loudly, and he was not prone to losing his temper. According to The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, their past meetings with the upstairs resident were “civil.”
