Authorities in Tennessee have brought charges against a 19-year-old woman after she allegedly set her ex-boyfriend’s bed on fire while he was sleeping with his new girlfriend and her baby. According to WREG, Derica Wiggins’ arrest on Friday came after she committed the alleged crime in March.
Authorities said the fire was ultimately put out before firefighters responded to the scene, adding that there were no injuries. Narrating the incident, the female victim said they were in the bedroom when she supposedly heard the sound of a lighter from outside. She also said she noticed an individual was peeping into the bedroom via a crack in the door, but initially believed that was one of her boyfriend’s brothers.
She stated that she later noticed the comforter they were sleeping in was on fire after she woke up. The fire was extinguished by her boyfriend before he went outside and got into a confrontation with Wiggins, police said. Authorities also said Ring video captured Wiggins making her way into the home and later leaving, WREG reported.
The comforter was damaged extensively after it was set on fire, authorities said, adding that the bedroom was also damaged from the smoke. Wiggins has since been charged with aggravated assault, arson, reckless burning, and setting fire to personal property.
