Forbes just released its list of highest grossing actors of 2017 and Britain-based Nigerian actor, John Boyega made the cut. Not only is he the only black person to make the list, but he is also one of the youngest on the list at just 25 years old (co-star Daisy Ridley, 25, is also on the list).
Boyega has been acting since the age of 9. He came to international spotlight when he was cast as Finn in the 2015 film Star Wars: The Force Awakens and its 2017 sequel Star Wars: The Last Jedi after wild success in the United Kingdom for his role as Moses in the 2011 sci-fi comedy film Attack the Block.
Forbes says it calculated the rankings using 2017 global ticket sales through December 26 and said the following about Boyega:
Global box office: $815 million
While Star Wars: The Last Jedi has not performed like 2015’s top grosser, The Force Awakens has already managed nearly $800 million globally – and is still in release. Boyega’s role in small movies including Kathryn Bigelow’s Detroit and Dave Eggers’ adaptation The Circle juiced his total.
Boyega, who celebrated the holidays in Nigeria, deserved all the fun he had in his home country.
