South Sudan has a population of 13 million people and it is bordered by Ethiopia to the east, Sudan to the north, DR Congo to the southwest, Uganda to the south and the Central African Republic to the west. It has a unique swamp region formed by the White Nile locally known as the Bahr al Jabal meaning “Mountain Sea”.
South Sudan gained independence from neighbouring Sudan in 2011 with Christianity being its majority religion. South Sudan has suffered violence with heavy clashes between ethnic groups. According to the latest UN World Happiness Report of 2018, Sudan ranks third least happy country in the world.
