A Warrensville Heights student has made history by becoming the youngest student from the school district to graduate from Cuyahoga Community College.
A junior from Warrensville Heights, Cameron Ray graduated from Cuyahoga Community College on December 17 with an associate degree in arts courtesy the Ohio College Credit Plus (CCP) program well before he is set to graduate high school in 2021.
The CCP allows eligible students in grades seventh through 12 to earn high school and college credit during summer, fall and spring semesters that will appear on both their high school and college transcripts.
“Everyone is usually pretty surprised when I tell them I’m only a junior in high school,” Ray said.
After lots of hard work and discipline, WHHS student Cameron Ray on Dec. 17 became the youngest Warrensville student ever to graduate from @TriCedu–well before he is set to graduate high school in 2021. “I’ve learned that sometimes it’s the best things in life you’ll be fearful of,” Ray added. “But, you’ve got to push yourself and get acquainted.”
Ray has already set his sights on future endeavors as he plans to go on to study film directing at Cleveland State University next semester.
College Credit Plus (CCP), which began in 2015, is Ohio’s successful dual enrollment program that provides thousands of students the opportunity to earn college and high school credits concurrently, at no cost to parents.
Reportedly, the program saved Ohio families in 2017-18 more than $148 million in tuition.
According to Ray, he has learned many soft skills by participating in CCP, including time management, juggling a social life and tutoring. But “freedom was the best part,” he said. “You can’t operate within regular constraints.”
