The life of a reportedly homeless man in Liverpool, who went viral on Twitter after a video was shared of his encounter with a man gassing him for looking like Stormzy, has changed for the better and we couldn’t be any happier.
On Wednesday, a Twitter user with the name Stella shared a TikTok video of a man claiming he bumped into Stormzy. During their conversation in the recording, the man tells the Stormzy lookalike – who later identified himself as Akwasi – that he listens to all of his songs. The lookalike, who was smiling throughout, said he wasn’t who he thought he was, and just looks like him, adding that he’s from the same country (Ghana) as the award-winning rapper.
Before parting ways, the man who filmed the video offered him 5p – a gesture most people, including Stella, later condemned.
“The guy recording is weird for the “hold the likkle 5p,” Stella shared in her follow-up Tweet, adding: “I hope stormzy finds him and helps him because the “i’m just begging” really did sumn.”

As the video went viral, scores of people offered to help the man and Stella set up a GoFundMe for him, saying the funds will “go towards finding him a stable place and will help him with any financial problems he may have.” She also praised the man for being “very humble and very polite to the disrespect that was shown to him.”
Over $25,000 has so far been raised to support Akwasi get back on his feet, surpassing the initial £5,000 ($6,500) goal. Stella also managed to meet Akwasi, who expressed gratitude in a video.
As if things couldn’t get any better, Stella also later revealed Stormzy’s manager got in touch!
