Despite being left confused with regards to a “holiday” declaration they knew nothing of, South Africans on Twitter still had something to laugh about in response to a video of Wendy Williams claiming April 10 is “Wendy Williams Day” in their country.
The talk show host passed those comments while speaking to her audience after the end of her regular show on Tuesday, MadameNoire reported. The 56-year-old reportedly said the date in question, which is also the same day her biopic will be released in the Southern African country, had been set aside as an honorary holiday for her.
“Do you know what April 10th is?” she asked her audience. “I just found out myself. April 10th is Wendy Williams Day in South Africa — I am not lying.”
Williams said she got to know about the “holiday” while granting a series of promotional interviews for her biopic with South African media.
“It was a big deal. Bernie and them got me on Zoom and I had a series of interviews and was informed [of the holiday] at that time. What happens is — for my Lifetime event — the event was released here in the US and anybody who saw it in any of our other 52 country friends only saw bits and pieces on Google. But on April 10th, it’s being released worldwide,” she said.
“So the various [South African] journalists I was talking to yesterday were like ‘No, you don’t understand, we are closing down businesses, we have to have a snack, we don’t want to talk during it — we wanna watch,’” she continued, adding: “Shoutout to my South African friends and thank you so much for the honor — it’s an honor.”
The news, however, came as a surprise to Mzansi Twitter after a snippet of the video was shared. Popular online newspaper TimesLIVE reported the topic even trended locally with tweeps using the hashtag “Which South Africa” as a reference to Williams’ comments.
Though a local radio host later admitted passing that info to Williams – albeit in a light-hearted manner – that did not stop South Africa Twitter from trolling the talk show host. Take a look at some of the reactions below:
@WendyWilliams wait, which South Africa are you talking about?

Knowing how dom that lot in Amerikha is, Wendy Williams could be referring to entire SADC region. Remember they think Africa is a country.
