British-Jamaican actress Jodie Turner-Smith has filed for divorce from her husband of four years Joshua Jackson. Per CNN, court records stated that the Queen & Slim star filed the divorce petition in a Los Angeles court on Monday.
Turner-Smith and Jackson started dating in 2018 and ultimately got married the following year. They also welcomed their daughter in 2020. Turner-Smith has asked the court to grant them joint custody of their child.
In a 2018 appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, the 37-year-old revealed she met the Canadian actor during an event for Usher. “When I first met my husband, we had a one-night stand,” she said at the time. “We’re in a two, three-year one-night stand now.”
Jackson in a 2021 interview with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show also disclosed he did not have to take the knee to ask for her hand in marriage as the actress made the unorthodox move to propose to him.
The 45-year-old spoke about the memorable moment and the events leading up to it when Fallon asked him if he always had it on the back of his mind that they were “destined” to eventually become husband and wife, PEOPLE reported.
“I knew the moment she asked me,” the Americano actor said at the time. “She asked me, yeah, on New Year’s Eve,” he added. “We were in Nicaragua. It was very beautiful, incredibly romantic. We were walking down the beach, and she asked me to marry her.”
Asked if the Anne Boleyn actress had actually planned the proposal, Jackson said there was some sort of a “preamble.” “There was a lead-up to it,” he revealed. “I did not know [about the proposal], but she was quite adamant, and she was right. This is the best choice I ever made.”
