A 63-year-old Philadelphia man, who was attacked by two pit bulls after he mistakenly entered the wrong house, has passed away two months after the incident. Per WPVI, there were five pit bulls in the home at the time of the October 4 attack.

The deceased, identified as Antonio Shaw, was unable to shout for help as a series of strokes he had suffered rendered him nonverbal, his family members said. “These dogs was very vicious and hungry. These dogs were eating him like a piece of steak,” Shaw’s sister, Sharese Jackson, said.

Philadelphia police ultimately responded to the scene after a neighbor who saw the attack called 911. Police shot and killed one dog while another also sustained a critical gunshot wound. That pit bull was later euthanized.

Shaw’s condition was listed as critical when he was taken to the hospital in the wake of the attack. The 63-year-old, who was also suffering other health issues, succumbed to his injuries on December 4, WPVI reported.

“He had a surgery done. He had to get his leg amputated because of the dog bites and the infections in his body from the dog bites,” his sister, Michelle Shaw, said. Jackson also said “it just didn’t go well” for her brother. “He was hanging in there, but it just turned for the worse,” she added.

Police said there currently are no pending charges. “My brother Antonio was a very wonderful person, and he loves his children and he loves his family,” Jackson said.

Shaw’s funeral is set to be held on Friday, December 15, and his family has been accepting donations. “I want Antonio to know we love him, and he will never be forgotten and he was a great person,” Shaw said. “He was very outstanding. Everyone loved him and everyone is going to miss him.”
