Ghanaian businessman Joseph Siaw Agyepong is the chairman of Jospong Group, which recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with EKI Energy Services, an Indian carbon credit developer and supplier.
The partnership aims to accelerate carbon credit development in the country. Besides this, the deal also has the potential to create more than 1,000 job opportunities by 2030 across Ghana and West Africa, according to Billionaires. Africa.
Per the agreement, Jospong Group and EKI Energy Services seek to mobilize $1 billion in carbon credit financing. “We are partnering with EKI Energy because of their experience, so they can hand-hold us and propel strong development in the sector,” Siaw said of the partnership.

Founder of Jospong Group
Siaw is the Group Chairman of Jospong Group Companies, a conglomerate that is into sanitation, printing, rice production, fertilizer production, banking, ICT, and automobile, among others. He first started the company in 1995 as a printing press and expanded it into one of Ghana’s biggest business firms with business interests in over 14 sectors spanning 60 subsidiaries with operations in Africa and Asia.
He aspired to be a pilot
One of Siaw’s earlier career aspirations was to become a pilot. However, things got in the way of his aspirations. After completing primary and middle school, he continued to the Royal Technical Institute in Accra, where he studied for the City and Guilds of London Certificate. He completed in 1990, graduating with an Electrical Engineering Technician (Part II) certificate.
When he made plans to study at the Accra Polytechnic, his mother, who sold school books, fell ill, compelling Siaw to suspend his tertiary education. He also took over the day-to-day running of the small shop. The business grew to the shock of many.
