Janet Jackson might have wielded superpowers alongside Marvel’s iconic heroes. But, it was Halle Berry who played the role. There is however a reason for this.
Speaking in an interview on The Drew Barrymore Show, the iconic “That’s the Way Love Goes” singer dropped a bombshell, explaining that she was on the brink of joining the star-studded cast of the 2000 superhero blockbuster X-Men, directed by Bryan Singer.
She indicated that she expected to be cast alongside Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, and Ian McKellen in the movie.
The singer revealed this after Barrymore’s co-anchor Ross Mathews enquired whether she was considered for Lana and Lilly Wachowski’s The Matrix, whereas she responded no. She stressed that it was X-Men rather than The Matrix that she almost starred in. During the interview, the specific title of the movie she was expected to join escaped her.
“Ooh, this is horrible — I can’t remember the film,” Jackson said in a clip from the episode posted to Instagram Thursday (April 25). “But Halle Berry played Storm …?”
When the Barrymore probed further, “X-Men?” Jackson nodded. “But I couldn’t, because I was just embarking on the Janet Tour,” she continued.
Jackson is renowned for her chart-topping hits and notable film roles including “Why Did I Get Married?” and “Poetic Justice.”
When the singer was asked whether she was open to any future film projects, she said, “I would, for sure.”
The five-time Grammy award winner is currently focusing on her “Together Again Tour” scheduled for Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and other cities.
