Tory Lanez’s wife Raina Nancy Chassagne has filed for divorce from the incarcerated Canadian rapper and musician. Per PEOPLE, Chassagne’s divorce filing comes less than a year after the pair tied the knot.

Chassagne in court documents obtained by the news outlet stated that she and the Jerry Sprunger singer got married on June 25, 2023, and went their separate ways on June 1, 2024. Chassagne and Lanez, born Daystar Shemuel Shua Peterson, also share a 7-year-old son. Chassagne wants to be granted legal and physical custody of the minor.

She said the divorce stemmed from irreconcilable differences. Lanez, 31, was sentenced to 10 years in prison last year after he was found guilty of shooting fellow musician Megan Thee Stallion. Lanez shot Megan Thee Stallion in the feet during an argument between the two after they left a pool party hosted at reality star Kylie Jenner’s Hollywood mansion in July 2020.

In a statement to announce his conviction, Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón said the disgraced musician had “engaged in a pattern of conduct that was intended to intimidate Ms. Pete [Megan Thee Stallion] and silence her truths from being heard” over the last three years.

“Women, especially Black women, are afraid to report crimes like assault because they are too often not believed. I commend Megan Pete for her incredible bravery and vulnerability as she underwent months of probing investigation and court appearances where she had to relive her trauma, and the public scrutiny that followed. This case highlighted the numerous ways that our society must do better for women.”

Megan Thee Stallion similarly released a statement in the wake of his conviction. “I struggle with being present. After everything that occurred I cannot bring myself back to being in the same room with Tory,” the 29-year-old said.

The Savage rapper also accused Lanez of paying “bloggers to disseminate false information, he treated my trauma like a joke when I could’ve been dead.”

“He blamed the system, he blamed the press, and as of late he is using his childhood trauma to justify his actions,” she added. Lanez has, however, maintained his innocence.
