Oside Oluwole, a Nigerian biochemist and car dealer, recently shattered the Guinness World Record for the longest videogame marathon. Per the organization, Oluwole, who is also known as “Khoded”, played a soccer videogame continuously for over three days. The 24-year-old clocked in 75 hours in the process.

The previous record holder was David Whitefoot – an Englishman who went on a gaming marathon for 50 hours in 2022. Oluwole hails from Ijebu Ode in Ogun State, and he embarked on the marathon to raise funds to support a local hospital in his hometown.

Oluwole broke the record while playing the Dream League Soccer 2023 mobile game. Past record holders, however, opted to play FIFA or Pro Evolution Soccer. Oluwole is said to have played the game on his iPhone, and he cast his smartphone on a television screen.

By the time Oluwole ended his marathon, he had played more than 500 matches, per the organization. Oluwole also had to abide by the “longest marathon” rules during his record-breaking attempt. He was allowed to take five-minute breaks after playing for one hour, and those were the periods he could have a meal, take a nap or go to the toilet.

“I really enjoyed myself playing for 75 hours straight with just some hours of rest,” Oluwole said. “It wasn’t an easy task, but I must say it was all fun,” he added. “It was such a great moment; the event was very interesting and I’m grateful to God that it was successful.”

Oluwole also said his fellow compatriot Chef Hilda Baci inspired him to take on the challenge. Baci drew national attention last year after she broke the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon (individual). She attained a time of 93 hours and 11 minutes, though she has since been dethroned.

Oluwole said he aims to embark on more videogame marathons and breaking records.
