Khadija and Odari Head are running Head’s Plumbing Sales and Service, Inc., a family business that has been entrusted to the dynamic siblings. The company, located in Atlanta, is the oldest and most experienced black-owned plumbing company in Georgia, with over 60 years of plumbing experience.

Located in southwest Atlanta since 1981, the company was founded by their grandfather in the 1950s, according to Black Business. It initially started by focusing on providing reliable plumbing services to the local Black community and it even survived blacklisting in the Civil Rights Era.

Under the leadership of Khadija and Odari, the Atlanta-based company has grown into a powerhouse in the industry, delivering top-tier plumbing solutions in Atlanta.

Khadija, who is the older of the two, has a background in business administration and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP). She took over the reins of the company as the CEO with a vision to modernize it while maintaining the values cherished by their grandfather.

As CEO, she brought in new technologies and streamlined operations to ensure that the company remained competitive in an evolving market. As per Black Business, she has helped the company secure large contracts with both residential and commercial clients, expanding its reach beyond Georgia’s borders.

“It is easy to be an employee,” Khadija said, according to ServiceTitan. “But when you take on the burden of entrepreneurship, it is something that you carry morning, noon and night, and even throughout your dreams.”

Odari, on the other hand, serves as the company’s vice president, and he is a master plumber by trade after graduating from Tuskegee University. He has used his time in the company to craft and mentor the next generation of plumbers within the company. He has also partnered with vocational schools, offering apprenticeships to young people interested in plumbing careers.

“I find pride in giving our community the quality of service that they deserve,” Odari said. “That’s one of the real highlights of being an owner, being able to work with these nonprofits.”

For the duo, serving in their grandfather’s company has not only been about growing it but also about making significant contributions to their community. Together, they regularly host workshops and training sessions to teach essential plumbing skills to underprivileged youth to enable them to build sustainable careers.

Delving into the future of Head’s Plumbing Sales and Service, Inc., the siblings said they are looking to expand their services into new regions. They were quick to add that while they are looking at expanding their operations, they will work to ensure that the company remains deeply rooted in the community that has supported them for so many years.

With clients including HouseProud Atlanta, Meals on Wheels and Atlanta Habitat, the company has over the years worked on the Stockade Basin sewer separation project and participated in the inaugural Clean Water Atlanta Small Business Development program.
