The Wayans brothers were the brains behind the Scary Movie franchise before they decided to walk away. The first installments of the movies were critically acclaimed and box office hits.

Fans will now be blessed with another installment as the Wayans brothers will be returning to the comedy horror franchise. Per Deadline, the brothers will be teaming up with Miramax & Paramount to bring the new Scary Movie to the screens.

The news comes after the announcement of another Scary Movie installment was initially made at CinemaCon. The Wayans brothers and Rick Alvarez have the writing and production credits for the new Scary Movie

The announcement of their return to the franchise was made by Marlon Wayans on social media on Tuesday. “WE’RE BACK!!! After nearly 20 years, the Wayans brothers are finally going to give the fans what they’ve been asking for… a return to the SCARY MOVIE franchise! We’re looking forward to having fun on the big screen again,” Marlon shared on X.

Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, and Keenen Ivory Wayans are credited for developing the Scary Movie franchise. The movie’s first two installments were written by the trio while Keenen additionally took the director’s seat. Marlon and Shawn were also co-stars in the first two movies.

“We are thrilled to reunite Scary Movie with the Wayans brothers, the brilliant creators behind the beloved franchise,” Miramax Boss Jonathan Glickman said. “The timing is perfect to bring back the series to the big screen and we’re lucky to have Keenen, Marlon and Shawn’s unique comedic vision bringing it to audiences around the world.”

Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Wayans also told Deadline that they “couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the new Scary Movie and work with each other again.”

They added: “This is a franchise we created more than 20 years ago. We remember people laughing in the aisles and hope to see that happen again. We look forward to working with Jonathan Glickman and his team at the new Miramax to bring these laughs to theaters, where they belong. It’s a double reunion.”

The new Scary Movie is set to go into production in 2025.
