Get to know NBA star Scotty Pippen Jr’s Road to Stardom
NBA star Scotty Maurice Pippen Jr is considered one of the brightest talents in American basketball at only 24-years -old.
Scotty Pippen Jr has gone on to begin a legacy at such an early stage in his career and features for the Memphis Grizzlies in the NBA.
Pippen Jr has a great history as the son of NBA Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen and television personality Larsa Pippen.
Pippen was born in 2000 in Portland, Oregon. At the time of his birth, his father played for the Portland Trail Blazers and the exposure to basketball fortunately came early for him.
Early Years and College Career
From his days in Kindergarten to tenth grade, Scotty Pippen Jr enrolled at Pine Crest School in Florida.
His family later moved to Los Angeles and he got transferred to Sierra Canyon School in Chatsworth, California, to get frequent game time in a competitive basketball team.
There, he featured alongside NBA stars Marvin Bagley III and Cassius Stanley, averaging 16.3 points and 4.6 assists per game and helped his team win the California Interscholastic Federation Open Division state title.
On the Amateur Athletic Union, Pippen Jr featured for the Oakland Soldiers and committed his future to college basketball for Vanderbilt over offers from Washington State and San Francisco.
As a freshman, Pippen Jr began to rack up the numbers and averaged 12 points and 3.6 rebounds per game, earning Southeastern Conference (SEC) All-Freshman Team honors.
Months after, NBA players Aaron Nesmirh and Saben Lee departed the team and Pippen Jr then took on the leading role.
In 2021 on January 9, he recorded his first double-double with 18 points and 12 assists against Mississippi State but grabbed the headlines when he scored 32 points in a defeat to Florida.
He went on to average 20 points as a sophomore and was later named to the First Team All-SEC as a junior.
Scotty Pippen Jr then later declared for the 2022 NBA draft and decided to forgo his remaining college for the professional level.
Professional Level and Achievements
Pippen Jr signed a two-way contract with the Los Angeles Lakers in the summer of 2022 and split game time with their G-League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers.
He later joined Los Angeles back for the 2022 NBA Summer League and recorded 14 points, six rebounds and three assists in a 100-66 victory over Miami Heat.
After, he was named to the G League’s inaugural Next Up Game for the 2022/23 campaign.
In October 2023, Pippen re-signed with the Los Angeles Lakers and subsequently rejoined the South Bay Lakers after waiving his contract.
2024 became the groundbreaking year for Scotty Pippen Jr. He signed a two-way contract which was later converted to a four-year deal with the Memphis Grizzlies.
He has since shown impeccable character and form over the past months and grabbed 12 points and a career-high 13 assists against the Philadelphia 76ers in a 124-107 win.
On November 8, Scotty Pippen Jr went on to record his first career triple-double with 11 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists in a 128-104 victory over the Washington Wizards.
He had made history by joining his father, Scottie as the first father-son duo in the NBA to each record a triple-double.
Since then, Pippen Jr has been on fire and is one of the standout performers so far in the 2024/25 season.
