The Inspiring Story of Meagan Good

Meagan Good is an amazing actress who captivated audiences with her talent. After beginning her acting journey as a child, she became one of the most celebrated actresses in Hollywood through unwavering determination. Her talent and achievements have inspired others and motivated them to pursue their dreams.

Good was born to Leondis “Leon” Good and Tyra Wardlow-Doyle on August 8, 1981, in Panorama City, Los Angeles. While her dad worked as an LAPD police officer, Good’s mother was her manager and worked into her teens.  She grew up in Canyon Country—which is now known as Santa Clarita, California. Her siblings are three, including her older sister and fellow actress La’Myia Good. She started acting when she was about four years old.

Meagan Good was an extra on television shows like Doogie Howser, M.D. and Amen during the early periods of her career. At the age of 13, she got her first film role in 1995’s comedy Friday. Good attained massive recognition when she acted as the troubled teen Cisely Batiste in Kasi Lemmons’ 1997 film Eve’s Bayou. This made her grab two award nominations which included her first NAACP Image Award nomination.

She landed a role in the Nickelodeon sitcom Cousin Skeeter running from 1998 to 2001—with a role as Nina. Good starred in the films Deliver Us from Eva in 2003, Roll Bounce in 2005 and Stomp the Yard in 2007. These roles propelled her to greater heights, earning her more recognition.

The American actress and model was given an ensemble cast in the film Think Like a Man in 2012. A year later, Good became the main character on the NBC drama series Deception—in which she acted as Joanna Locasto. She was also featured in Anchorman 2.

Her supporting roles occurred in films such as One Missed Call in 2008, Saw V in 2008, The Unborn in 2009, and as the superhero version of Darla Dudley in the DCEU films Shazam! In 2019 and Shazam! Fury of the Gods in 2023.

In 2024, Meagan Good worked as a co-producer and also starred in Tyler Perry‘s Divorce in the Black which was produced for Amazon Prime Video. She also teamed up with actor Taye Diggs as an actor and executive producer of Terry McMillan Presents: Forever, a Lifetime original movie.

Meagan Good Personal Life

Despite not being raised in a religious household, Meagan Good identifies as a Protestant and describes herself as deeply spiritual. In various interviews, she has shared that she turns down roles she believes might “disappoint God.” She also mentioned that Jesus is her greatest inspiration and noted the Bible as the most recent book she read.

At the of 22, Good decided to focus on her career rather than dating, a choice she discussed in a 2004 interview. In 2011, she began a relationship with DeVon Franklin, a Columbia Pictures executive and Seventh-day Adventist preacher. The couple got engaged in April 2012 and was married on June 16, 2012, at Triunfo Creek Winery in Malibu, California. They publicly shared their commitment to remaining celibate during their courtship. However, after nine years of marriage, they announced their separation in December 2021, and their divorce was finalized in June 2022.

Meagan Good and Jonathan Majors

Meagan Good and actor Jonathan Majors started dating in May 2023. They announced their engagement in November 2024 at Ebony magazine’s Power 100 event, where they had first met in 2022.
