What began as a therapeutic hobby for Natalie Manima has evolved into Bespoke Binny, a thriving homeware brand that celebrates African heritage through bold, vibrant designs. Founded in 2013, the British-Ghanaian entrepreneur’s brand now serves as a symbol of cultural pride, blending traditional West African fabrics with modern home décor.

Manima’s journey began with a personal need to bring warmth and cultural identity into her living space. As a cognitive behavioral therapist, she understood the importance of creating a positive environment. “I wanted my home to feel like a reflection of who I am,” she said.

Drawing inspiration from her Ghanaian heritage, Manima crafted cushion covers, lampshades, and aprons using Ankara fabrics—distinct for their bold patterns and rich colors.

Though initially a side project, the response to her creations was immediate. Friends and family encouraged her to share her work beyond her personal circle. She began selling at local markets in London, where her handcrafted designs quickly caught attention.

“People would stop by and say, ‘I’ve never seen anything like this before,’” Manima recalled. Her work not only resonated with those seeking vibrant home décor but also with individuals looking to connect with African culture in a meaningful way.

Blending craft and culture
Bespoke Binny’s ethos centers around preserving and celebrating African artistry. Manima sources her fabrics from Ghana and other parts of West Africa, ensuring each piece reflects the authenticity and craftsmanship of the region. The brand’s offerings include everything from eye-catching table runners to colorful journal covers, all handmade with care.

“Every pattern has a story,” Manima explained. “It’s about more than just decorating a home—it’s about keeping our cultural narratives alive.” This storytelling aspect has helped Bespoke Binny stand out in a crowded homeware market, earning it features in major publications like Vogue and The Guardian.

Global recognition and growth
Bespoke Binny’s rise coincided with a growing global interest in supporting Black-owned businesses. In the wake of worldwide movements emphasizing the importance of diversity and representation, Manima’s brand gained traction on international platforms. Despite its success, Manima remains committed to the brand’s roots, ensuring every item is carefully crafted by hand.

In addition to selling online, she continues to participate in pop-up markets and events, engaging directly with her customers. This hands-on approach has solidified Bespoke Binny’s reputation as a brand that values connection, authenticity, and craftsmanship.

Empowering creativity
Beyond creating homeware, Manima has become a source of inspiration for aspiring entrepreneurs, particularly Black women looking to turn creative passions into viable businesses. She shares her experiences through workshops and social media, encouraging others to explore the intersection of creativity and cultural pride.

“It’s about showing people that you can take something meaningful to you and build something impactful,” she said. “There’s power in embracing your heritage and sharing it with the world.”

A lasting legacy
Today, Bespoke Binny is more than a brand— it’s a powerful example of how cultural heritage can be preserved through artistry. Manima’s story is a reminder that hobbies can transform into heritage, especially when they are rooted in authenticity and passion.

As Bespoke Binny continues to grow, it remains a beacon of African-inspired craftsmanship, proving that when culture and creativity meet, the result is both beautiful and enduring.
