Louisiana rapper NBA YoungBoy (Kentrell Gaulden) has been sentenced to just under two years in jail for gun-related crimes after admitting to possessing weapons while being a felon.

As reported by the Guardian, the 25-year-old reached a settlement with a federal judge in Utah that settled two sets of federal charges against him, one of which carries a 23-month sentence, and the other imposes five years of probation and a $200,000 fine.

Court records indicate that he and the lawyers signed the agreement on December 10, even though he had achieved a consensus with federal prosecutors in September.

YoungBoy admitted to having a Masterpiece Arms MPA30T 9mm handgun and a Glock 21.45-caliber pistol when he was in Baton Rouge filming a rap video. Additionally, he claimed to have a Sig Sauer 9mm semi-automatic handgun at his Huntsville, Utah, residence in April. He consented to hand over the weapons.

In a statement issued before the plea deal, he said he had previously been found guilty of aggravated assault with a firearm in Louisiana.

The rapper’s case was scheduled to be heard in Louisiana but HipHopDX reports that the court moved the case to Utah in August after YoungBoy consented in writing to enter a guilty plea to firearms possession. The rapper was also facing separate drug fraud charges there.

Last month, YoungBoy was sentenced in that case after entering guilty pleas to six counts of misdemeanor unlawful pharmacist conduct, two instances of third-degree criminal identity fraud, and two counts of third-degree felony forgery. He entered a “no contest” plea to the remaining charges.

According to several news outlets, Utah investigators raided his home in April following a complaint that he had impersonated a doctor in order to obtain prescription drugs.

As part of the federal plea deal, he would plead guilty to 10 state charges and be sentenced to time served plus a $25,000 fine, the Guardian reported.

Before federal judge Howard Nielson imposed the punishment, the rapper expressed regret to the court and his family.

He admitted, “I let my situation get the best of me. I take full responsibility.”

Judge Nielson stated that he hoped YoungBoy would reach a point where he can make decisions that are “completely unrestricted” by drugs, but he will need to “walk the straight and narrow” by completing mental health assessments and court-mandated substance abuse treatment.
