The 2025 NFL Draft is going to take place without a conspicuous face in attendance, and that’s University of Colorado quarterback prospect Shedeur Sanders.
The talented 23-year-old is expected to be a top-ten pick in the first round of this year’s draft. But in a recent interview with Overtime, Sanders, whose father is NFL legend and Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, explained that he won’t be attending the draft because he’ll be hosting an event that same day.
Sanders said he rather wants to hang out with family and friends who had his back from day one, adding that he would hold the event in Colorado or Dallas, the New York Post reported.
“We plan on doing it, like an event thing, and where it’ll be fun,” Sanders said. “It’ll be more family, friends be able to come because the only thing with going to the draft is just I want to spend those moments with my people. You gotta think, having everybody come out there, bro, it’s going to be so expensive. Cost-wise, you saving a lot of money. You get to be around your people and all that.”
He added: “It’s not just me that was able to get to this point. It’s like a team. It was a team thing and it was a team of people that helped me. Allowed me to get to where I am now. I want to be able to make sure I’m able to enjoy that with everybody and nobody be in uncomfortable situations just for traveling and just to show support.”
The 2025 NFL Draft will take place in April at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The team that will ultimately pick Sanders cannot be established, though the franchises with the first three overall picks are supposedly looking at beefing up their roster with a quarterback, the New York Post reported.
Those three teams, in chronological order, are the Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, and New York Giants. Coincidentally, Sanders said the Browns are the only team he picks when he’s playing the Madden video game.
