After receiving a shoutout in Josh Allen’s first NFL MVP of the Year speech, Roderick “Slick Rick” Morrow, a mailroom employee for the Buffalo Bills, had his life completely transformed.
In his speech after receiving the award, Allen stated, “We’ve got such a great locker room in Buffalo.”
“It takes everybody from the equipment staff to the training room to the strength staff, to ‘Slick Rick’ in the mailroom to the cafeteria upstairs.”
Since then, Morrow, who was mentioned in the same speech as Allen’s fiancée, Hailee Steinfeld, head coach Sean McDermott, and general manager Brandon Beane, has been highlighted on numerous notable platforms.

He described how he broke down in tears when Allen mentioned him on national television.
He said, “When I left work Thursday, I said if Josh doesn’t get MVP, I’m going to cry because he deserves it. He’s that important to our team.
“When I was watching the awards and went on stage and everything, I was happy that he’d won it and it went from joyful to crying because when he mentioned my name, I just broke down. I broke down because I’m just an average person. When he mentioned my name it was like ‘Oh, my God, he just mentioned my name on national television.’ I was just crying. Then I started getting phone calls from friends and I was crying on the phone to them. It’s still like a dream. I work here but I don’t like this publicity. I’m just down to earth.”
He also told Spectrum News, “When he said my name I couldn’t believe it. I hate to cry. I still don’t believe he said my name. I started crying and my son was in my room watching it and I started screaming ‘he said my name!'”
In addition to garnering media attention, the Democrat & Chronicle reported that West Herr Automotive Group, which operates 40 car dealerships in western New York, gave Morrow a 2017 Chevrolet Traverse on Friday.

Morrow had never owned a car and had been taking the bus from his home in Buffalo to work in Orchard Park, 15 miles away, for the last 15 years. He grew up near the Buffalo Bills’ former War Memorial Stadium.
“I can’t believe it,” Morrow said to WKBW after receiving the the SUV. “I’m the type of person like ‘why me?’ This is unbelievable. I thank everybody. I’m just an average guy.
“I was blessed to get the job with the Bills. I just try not to miss no days of work and just be there and do what I’m supposed to do.”
Morrow believes he got the nickname “Slick Rick” from former quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.
He explained, “They call me Slick Rick, but I never went by that before.”
“I guess with the name Rick, everyone just wants to throw the name slick in front of it…but I don’t think I’m a slick person, I don’t try to be slick or anything like that.”
Millions of people have watched his social media interview videos, and SportsCenter host Scott Van Pelt used Allen’s comments as a reminder to show kindness and gratitude to others.
Meanwhile, Morrow, who is in his 60s, has no intention of slowing down or retiring.
He commented, “I love my job, and I wouldn’t want to work anywhere else in the world. I wouldn’t. I’m living the dream; that’s the way I look at it. Every day I come in the building and punch in here; it’s like I’m living the dream.”
