During an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, Grammy-winning rapper Cardi B expressed her frustration with some fellow female rappers throwing shots at her, implying that it was because they weren’t on the same level as her.
Cardi, whose real name is Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, explained that the title of her upcoming sophomore album, Am I the Drama?, is centered around the supposed dislike that comes her way.
“It’s like, ‘D*mn, does drama chase me? Or am I the drama?” Cardi, 32, said, per BET. “I just really think I was born with an anointed light. Sometimes the light is great, but it also disturbs people’s peace. It draws people to me, and it’s not always going to be good. That light might bother people … maybe it’s too bright, it’s too loud.”
The WAP rapper also reflected on her relationship with other female emcees, stating that there’s something they can’t stand.
“Even in the industry, there is a lot of different female rappers, but for some reason, it’s something about me that these b**ches can’t stand,” Cardi said. “They can’t f**k with me. Some b**ches, I feel like they’re on this class right now, they’re sophomores, and I’m a senior. And it’s like, you want to f**k with the senior so bad. You think you’re here with the senior. You’re not even a junior. You need to worry about them other sophomores before you start worrying about the f**king senior.”
Cardi then explicitly stated that she was “sick” of the shots being thrown at her. “They always got to focus on throwing me shots and throwing me slings … and I’m sick of it. It’s like, f**k you, f**k everybody,” the Imaginary Playerz rapper said.
Cardi has been involved in highly publicized feuds with female rappers including Nicki Minaj, JT of City Girls, and Bia. She has even had a back-and-forth with right-wing political commentator Candace Owens.
