Authorities in Charlotte have brought charges against a 28-year-old female high school teacher who allegedly had sex with an 18-year-old student. Per WBTV, police said the alleged inappropriate relationship between Olivia Dennis and the student was reported to a School Resource Officer at Olympic High School on May 20, 2024.
An investigation into their alleged inappropriate relationship was subsequently launched by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Sexual Assault Unit. Dennis was ultimately arrested and charged with three counts of Sexual Activity with a Student by a Teacher.
Police also said that none of the alleged acts were believed to have occurred on the school’s premises. “Good afternoon Olympic High School families, this is Principal Jones reaching out with an important message. You may have heard about an alleged inappropriate relationship involving a staff member and a student. The school administration is aware, and we are fully cooperating with law enforcement in their investigation,” Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools said in a statement.
“Due to privacy laws, we are unable to share any details or information regarding this incident. Please know that the safety and well-being of our students is our top priority and we take this incident very seriously. Thank you for your continued support of Olympic High School.”
Dennis was released on May 21 after she posted a $75,000 bond. She was also placed on pay with suspension.
In 2021, a substitute teacher was similarly arrested after a video that was posted on Snapchat allegedly showed her having sex with a student, Face2Face Africa reported. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said they opened investigations into the case on December 3 after a student at Lakeland High School notified Lakeland police school resource officers about a video circulating on Snapchat that showed 20-year-old Ayanna Davis having sex with a student.
The student said multiple Lakeland High School football players allegedly saw the video in question. “I know it’s out there someplace,” Sheriff Grady Judd said. “It always is and that’s not a good thing. He’s still a juvenile, a child, and she’s an adult and she had sex and it’s wrong on every level.”
Davis was an employee of Kelly Education, and the staffing company had posted her to Lakeland High School where she worked as a substitute English teacher. Kelly Education reportedly helps provide substitute teachers for Polk County Public Schools.
