Nicki Minaj has publicly commended President Donald Trump and expressed her unwavering support for his administration.
But it appears that was not the case during Trump’s first term as president, as Minaj, in a previous Facebook post, registered her displeasure with his administration’s anti-immigration actions and even revealed that she came to the United States as an “illegal immigrant” when she was young.
“I came to this country as an illegal immigrant @ 5 years old. I can’t imagine the horror of being in a strange place & having my parents stripped away from me at the age of 5. This is so scary to me. Please stop this. Can you try to imagine the terror & panic these kids feel right now?” Minaj, 43, wrote on Facebook in 2018, per TMZ.
The Super Bass rapper, in her post, also shared a photo of children in a huge cage, with some sitting and lying on mats. Others are also covered in blankets.
It, however, appears that Minaj has currently changed her stance on Trump’s aggressive anti-immigration policies, as she recently endorsed an X post from Katie Miller, whose husband is White House Homeland Security advisor Stephen Miller. Katie, in her post, advocated for the SAVE Act, which is a bill seeking to bar “illegal aliens” from “voting and engaging in our democracy,” per TMZ.
It is also unclear whether Minaj is a U.S. citizen, as she took to TikTok in 2024 to claim that was not the case.
“I was born on a beautiful island called Trinidad and Tobago. But I’ve been in the States for many years,” the 43-year-old said in the TikTok Live. “You would think that with the millions of dollars that I’ve paid in taxes to this country that I would have been given an honorary citizenship many, many, many thousands of years ago.”
There have been multiple instances where Minaj has expressed her support for the Trump administration. In one of those instances, she took to social media to propagate a Trump administration claim that Christians were being persecuted in Nigeria. Minaj also recently made an appearance at a Turning Point event hosted by Charlie Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk. A few days ago, she called out journalist Don Lemon on social media after he covered an anti-ICE protest inside a Minnesota church.
And though the reason behind Minaj’s support for the Trump administration could not be established, Don Lemon suggested that she’s trying to avoid deportation, or attempting to have her sex offender husband, Kenneth Petty, get a pardon, TMZ reported. Lemon also suggested that Minaj could also be trying to get a pardon for her brother Jelani Maraj. He’s currently serving time after he was found guilty of predatory sexual assault.
