Authorities in Georgia said that a father turned his 16-year-old son in to police after he was linked to two shootings.

The Clayton County Sheriff’s Office announced that the teen suspect, identified as Lequan Stephens, is now facing aggravated assault charges, Fox News reported.

The Lovejoy Police Department said that the first shooting happened in the 2500 block of Lovejoy Crossing Lane on January 17. Officers who responded to the scene found a juvenile who had been shot in the face and neck. The victim was said to be in the front passenger seat.

Authorities said that the suspect fled the scene after shooting at the car. Stephens was ultimately linked to the shooting, and authorities secured his arrest warrants.

Stephens was also linked to a different shooting, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation similarly obtained warrants for his arrest.

The sheriff’s department said that they worked with several agencies to organize a coordinated operation at many homes that had connections with Stephens’ family members and acquaintances, Fox News reported.

“Law enforcement made it clear that Stephens had no place to hide and would receive no assistance,” the department said in a statement.

Authorities said that Stephens’ father eventually turned him in to police after he went on the run for over 48 hours.

In 2022, Face2Face Africa reported that the mother of a Chicago train robbery suspect drove him to police station after she recognized him.

According to CWBChicago, the suspect, identified as Zion Brown, was headed to school when he allegedly robbed a train conductor at gunpoint. The incident occurred on February 15, 2022.

And though Brown managed to flee the scene after the incident, prosecutors said his mother drove him to the Calumet City police department to turn himself in later that same day. That was after she recognized the photos authorities shared.

The incident occurred after the train stopped at Van Buren Street Station in Grant Park. The suspect allegedly robbed the train conductor of $110 at gunpoint. Prosecutors said Brown told police he robbed the conductor after he realized he had money on him. The suspect also claimed the weapon he used was a BB gun that he later disposed of in a dumpster after the crime.

During his bail hearing, Brown’s private defense attorney claimed that Brown committed the robbery because he was hungry and needed money to buy food before attending his lessons. And leading to Judge Maryam Ahmad’s ruling on the state’s request to keep Brown in custody without bail, his defense attorney urged her to look back on her experiences as a hungry student in college, CWBChicago reported.

But Ahmad dismissed that argument, saying that though she had memories of being a hungry college student, it never crossed her mind to rob someone at gunpoint. She then went ahead to approve the no-bail request from the state.
