Trinity Rodman has become the highest-paid female player globally after signing a landmark three-year contract with the Washington Spirit, securing her place with the club until 2028.

According to ESPN sources, the deal is valued at over $2 million annually (including bonuses), establishing the United States forward as the highest-paid player in the league’s history.

Her agent, Mike Senkowski of Upper 90 Sports Group, confirmed her standing as the world’s highest-paid female player.

This announcement, which resolves months of speculation about Rodman’s future, was made by Rodman, Spirit owner Michele Kang, Spirit president of soccer operations Haley Carter, and CEO Kim Stone at BMO Field in Los Angeles, where Rodman is currently training with the USWNT.

After signing her contract, the 23-year-old said, “It feels amazing, I’m very happy, I’m very blessed. I think it’s a monumental and game-changing moment right now. I can’t even describe in words what it feels like. Obviously, everyone’s going to have their different thoughts and opinions about it, but I’ve never really cared. So, that doesn’t change anything for me.”

She added, “I’ve always had a vision of kind of an idea of what I want my legacy to be and continue to be. For me, we’re doing that, with help obviously, and I’m so grateful for that. But yeah, I think this is just opening up opportunities for American girls with dreams, and I’m one and was one of them, and so I’m very grateful about that.

And it’s perfect timing with the World Cup happening in the U.S., too.”

Widespread public debate had surrounded Rodman’s future for months after her previous contract expired on December 31st, leaving her without a deal. This uncertainty about Rodman’s status contributed to a period of turmoil for the NWSL.

“Not only me personally but all of us at the Spirit are profoundly grateful that she has chosen to stay with us for another three years despite some very compelling alternatives she had,” Kang said at the event.

Losing Rodman to a European club would be a major NWSL loss, following previous transfers of USWNT players Alyssa Thompson and Naomi Girma to Chelsea, and midfielder Sam Coffey’s confirmed move from the Portland Thorns to Manchester City last week.

“Trinity is an inspiration to young girls across America. She is a player they can relate to, and those young fans matter more than anything to her,” Senkowski said in a statement. “The decision to continue to play here represents a very clear vision for the future of women’s soccer. She set a new standard for the sport and will ultimately drive the continued growth and success of the league and its players. I’m so proud of her.”

Trinity Rodman skipped college to join the NWSL’s Washington Spirit at age 19 as the 2021 second overall draft pick. In her rookie year, she helped secure their first NWSL championship, scoring a semifinal goal and assisting the final winner.

This success led to a four-year, $1.1 million contract, then the league’s highest, set to expire at the end of 2025 as she rejoined USWNT training.

Rodman, as captain of the USWNT, recently led Team USA to a 6-0 victory over Paraguay, marking the start of the 2026 calendar, according to Marca

Despite being the youngest player on the squad, she proved her value in her 48th international appearance—her first since April 5, 2025. With 48 caps and 12 goals, she was the most experienced player on the January roster. Her veteran leadership will be vital as the team prepares for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027.
