After taking home the Best Rap Album on Sunday, February 1, for GNX, Kendrick Lamar used his speech to reaffirm that hip-hop is “always” going to have a home on the Grammys stage, all while shouting out to fellow nominees: Tyler, The Creator and Clipse.

“It’s hip-hop as usual, man,” Kendrick said during his speech. “I’m not good at talking about myself, but I express it through the music. It’s an honor to be here, Tyler, the Clipse. Like, these are my brothers to be in this category. What’s up, Push, man? Malice, man? Every time I tell you this: hip-hop is gonna always be right here. We gon’ be in these suits, we gon’ be looking good. We gon’ be having our folks with us. We gon’ be having the culture with us. So I appreciate y’all. God is the glory. Love y’all.”, he said in his speech.

Also, Lamar officially became the rapper with the most Grammy wins in history (27), surpassing Kanye West and Jay Z in the process.

On Sunday night, Kendrick Lamar took home three new trophies to add to his growing collection this year by picking up Best Rap Performance for “Chains & Whips,” alongside Clipse, Pusha T, Malice and Pharrell Williams, Best Melodic Rap Performance for “Luther,” his collaboration with SZA and Best Rap Song for “TV Off,” his collaborative track featuring Lefty Gunplay at the 2026 Grammy Awards.

Lamar’s new accomplishment officially sees him surpass Ye, who held the record for most Grammy wins by a rapper with 24, before Jay-Z surpassed him in 2025 with 25, thanks to his songwriting contributions on Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter, which was crowned Album of the Year.

Take the wins away, and there’s still a lot to talk about in relation to Kendrick Lamar. Beyond his wins, Lamar is one of the night’s most-nominated artists and may go on to widen the gap between him and Jay Z should he score a few more.

Kendrick Lamar was one of the big names at the ceremony and also took home Record of the Year for “Luther” with SZA.

His latest album, GNX, was also nominated for both Album of the Year and Best Rap Album, while his collaboration “30 for 30” with SZA was up for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.

This historic milestone further cements the legacy of Kendrick Lamar as one of hip-hop’s most decorated artists, with consistent recognition across both rap-specific categories and the Grammys’ biggest general fields.
