In light of the Olympics being held in Brazil, Rio Olympics organizers set aside dedicated venues and centers, where countries or corporate organisations can set up hospitality or fair-themed venues called “houses” to showcase the best of themselves to tourists and locals, alike. And the popular Africa house is among the top sites to see.
There are 52 houses in several locations around Rio, with 26 of them being open to the general public and most of them being free.
In this year’s Olympics, the Africa house represents the 54 countries on the African continent and is one of the biggest houses on display in Rio.
The Africa House has an airplane flight theme with the seating arrangement resembling that of a passenger plane. Known as the “Fly to Africa Experience,” it has a 56 passenger capacity, with the entry ticket serving as a boarding pass. The “Experience” lasts 5 minutes per passenger.
Passengers also enjoy delicious culinary delights popular across Africa, such as pamonha (chicken thigh) and couscous (a popular North African delicacy made of steamed wheat), while watching videos showcasing the major tourist attractions in Africa.
Like in previous Olympics, the Africa House is expected to provide a melting pot for revelers from Africa and around the world to gather, unwind, watch the games, and support their favorite teams or athletes together.
The Africa house is located close to the Olympic park at the Casa Shopping Avenue, Ayrton Senna, 2150 – Barra da Tijuca, and it is open between 12:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. daily from August 1 to August 21.
