Former Zimbabwean First Lady Grace Mugabe is under probe for her 2014 doctorate awarded by the University of Zimbabwe in a few months of enrolling.

Local media report that she had not studied for the doctorate nor conducted research but was handed her diploma by her husband, ousted President Robert Mugabe, who was the chancellor of the university.

The Zimbabwean anti-corruption commission confirmed that a probe has been launched into the degree whose thesis has not been published.

“We confirm there is such a report and there is such a probe,” said Zimbabwe anti-corruption commission spokeswoman Phyllis Chikundura, who was quoted by French news agency AFP.

Robert Mugabe was ousted in a military takeover in November after months of tension fueled by his wife’s conflict with veteran party officials including current President Emmerson Mnangagwa who was sacked as Vice President.

Grace Mugabe was clear about her plans to succeed her 93-year-old husband who was the oldest serving president and the second longest serving leader after Equatorial Guinea’s Teodoro Mbasogo Obiang Nguema.
