Scores of Nigerians are still struggling to come to terms with the news that a private Christian university in the country has punished students by shaving a strip into their hair.
Alumni of the Covenant University has criticized authorities of the school following a viral video showing students having their hair cut. The students are seated in a hall as a man used a hair clipper to shave hair off the middle of their heads under the supervision of some staff members.
Watch how students of covenant university were punished. Their hair was barbed using a single clipper. #CovenantUniversity #CU #News pic.twitter.com/e14Uo3VeUo

It is unclear what caused this sort of punishment but local media say the victims had refused to take Bibles to a service held on campus.
Other students punished were also said to have missed religious services during Easter.
The university, which is affiliated with Living Faith Church Worldwide, Ota, Ogun State, has since been accused of not respecting the right and dignity of the students.
For others, using the same hair clipper on multiple students is not hygienic. The school is yet to comment on the development.
Here are some of the responses on social media:
What is the problem with covenant university? Misplaced priorities. So this was done because lots of students didn’t carry bible and jotting material to church yesterday. ??♂️??♂️??♂️ pic.twitter.com/CDXEHb75ZO

So today Covenant University invented a new #cuhaircut. Turned male students (“kings of Hebron”) into avatars.
Are we angry? :Yes very
Can we do anything about it? : No
Why? : Our parents paid millions, we are trying to graduate

We need to call out Covenant University on their bullshit.. it’s getting scary…how does someone’s haircut affect his education and his salvation. We are here to serve God not to be God.

Covenant University is a problem ????
So some students didn’t take their bibles to church ( Living faith church HQ) and the management of CU decided to do something funny cause they felt the students embarrassed them. pic.twitter.com/u0xP4BSJ2A

I am so disappointed with how the Dean of Covenant University portrayed himself today. Shaving a portion of their heads would not generate an atom of respect or admiration towards your administration. In fact it was very disrespectful and appaling to see all those pictures #Think

Covenant university stops students from thinking for themselves and are basically treated like animals in cages rather than human beings. University should give independence for students to get ready for the real world not be treated like secondary students.
