Mega screenwriter, author and television show producer Shonda Rhimes signed a development deal with streaming giant Netflix in 2017.

Rhimes had already found much success with her shows Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder which all air on the network ABC. She just sweetened her deals.

Rhimes has eight shows in the works with the streaming service that includes “a show about a fashionable young grifter written about in New York magazine named Anna Delvey, who conned New York socialites into funding her lavish lifestyle but now she’s living her not so lavish life in Rikers Island, behind bars” and Sunshine Scouts, which Rhimes describes as “darkly comic, ironic, twisty show about some foul-mouthed teenage girls who are trapped at the end of the world.”

The theme of Rhimes shows center around strong women. Much like we’ve seen from the fearless producer.

Rhimes iterated, “I wanted the new Shondaland to be a place where we expand the types of stories we tell, where my fellow talented creatives could thrive and make their best work and where we as a team come to the office each day filled with excitement,” “This is Shondaland 2.0.”

Black women power is in full order here. At Netflix, Rhimes is able to maintain creative supremacy for her writers and producers. She commented, “I can’t wait to show everybody what a Shondaland show is that we make for the world.”

The contract between Rhimes and Netflix is reported to have netted the superstar producer nine figures.

Will her new shows be a repeat of the same old types of shows we’re used to seeing?

“I’m not going to make you a second ‘Grey’s Anatomy,” Rhimes says.
