Black poets all over the world identify with Africa in different ways. Some have an endearing nostalgia to the continent, others want nothing to do with the land that reminds them of the tribulations their ancestors went through and many others are torn between the two.

Regardless of their feelings about the motherland, many have written poems that reflect the essence of their existence.

Here are some poems that reflect black poets’ view and perception of Africa.
