Popular British magazine Powerlist has released its annual list of Britain’s 100 most influential people of African and Caribbean heritage with the majority of the honorees in the top 10 being African.

According to Powerlist, the annual publication, which was first released in 2007 aims to “provide professional role models for young people of African and African Caribbean heritage.”

About the selection criteria and shortlisting which according to Powerlist is subjective, new people who are nominated are put through a test based on their definition of influence which they define as “the ability to positively alter events and change lives as demonstrated over a reasonable period of time.”

The new nominees are also given marks out of 10 based on two indices which include “how influential they are in their immediate sphere of expertise and how far that influence reaches beyond that.”

Taking the number one spot for the 2019 Powerlist is Ric Lewis, the CEO and Chairman of Tristan Capital Partners, Britain’s largest black-owned and led company. Lewis was ranked second in the 2017 and 2018 list respectively.

Some notable black Brits with direct African heritage who did not make the top 10 but were in the top 100 include Idris Elba, Thandie Newton, Mo Farah, Stormzy, Anthony Joshua, John Boyega, among others.
