Kenya’s most celebrated traditional leaders who resisted British colonialism

Known as Jamhuri Day, December 12 is a date that many Kenyans circle on their calendars.

Not only is it a national holiday and a day off from work, but it’s an opportunity for citizens to celebrate their independence from Britain as well as celebrate iconic personalities who played crucial roles during the fight against imperialism.

As a matter of fact, some of these personalities who started the resistance somewhere in the 1800s set the pace for the latter-day freedom fighters in Kenya to follow.

To commemorate Kenya’s independence day, Face2Face Africa highlights three traditional leaders who led their people in rebelling against British colonizers.
