It’s quite obvious and rather unfortunate some women, on a daily basis, are subjected to sexual harassment and sexual advances by some men who cannot take no for an answer and keep their hands to themselves.
In an effort to mitigate this, the #MeToo hashtag movement was initiated to raise awareness of sexual harassment and sexual abuse and it instantly became a global movement.
Just a couple of weeks ago in Nigeria, some women stormed the Yaba market in Lagos to protest sexual harassment and catcalling by male traders.
The protest turned out to be effective as some women shared on social media how the male traders are now restraining from touching them.
Take a look at some of the accounts below:
Almost the same thing happened to me yesterday. I even purposely went sef, I really didn’t need to buy anything but I was like, lemme see what would happen.
The closest thing to a catcall I got was, thank you fine girl. And that was for helping the seller look for change.

I’m happy to say that the move that @MarketMarch team made was actually worth it.i was at YABA market today and there was no groping and harassment by the traders. At a point I thought it was just me but I took a moment to observe and I didn’t see them do it to anyone. Kudos ????

I am so happy, I hope this will last. Kudos to @OmogeDami and other women that led the march.
At Yaba to get my hair done and this guy touched me while trying to get me to patronize him. The apologies that followed almost had me laughing. So yeah, those girls did something good.
