Ellen Eglin

Ellen Eglin was a housekeeper and a government clerk who pioneered and invented a mechanical clothes wringer for washing machines. She eventually sold it off for a low price in 1888 to a white person who was interested in further developing the device because she was afraid no one will buy her invention on account of her colour.
