Marie Van Brittan Brown
Marie Van Brittan Brown is credited to have invented the first home security system. She had recognized security threats to her home and devised a system that would alert her of strangers at the door and contact relevant authorities immediately. Her initial invention consisted of peepholes, a camera, monitors, and a two-way microphone. She later included an alarm button which would immediately contact the police when pressed. Her system was the foundation for advanced security systems and has evolved into the modern-day closed-circuit television system (CCTV) widely used for surveillance, crime prevention, crime detection and traffic monitoring.
