Luther Lindsay
One of the few African American wrestlers to become major stars, Lindsay was also a professional football player. Known by his ring name Luther Lindsay or Lindsey, he was popular in the Pacific Northwest and Mid-Atlantic territory.
Becoming famous in the U.S., Lindsay was tagged as the U.S Coloured (or Negro) Heavyweight Champion and he was the first interracial professional wrestler in the States.
After ten minutes of a match in 1972, Lindsay pinned his opponent with a diving belly-flop. He apparently suffered a fatal heart attack when he made the pin and died on top of his opponent.
