5 controversial African cartoonists who get on politicians’ nerves

Tony Namate

Namate from Zimbabwe has had to face a lot of problems over his work, including having the newspaper he was working for attacked by a homemade explosive device and having to close office after the government denied them a permit to work.  Fortunately, he did not stop creating cartoons that portray the societal ills and make strong political commentary.

He has also faced attacks from the Mugabe-led government that not only threatened him with legal suits but also described him as ‘treasonable, infuriating and unacceptable’.
