Les Amazones d’Afrique

A music produced by this group made the list of songs chosen by the former president of the United States, Barack Obama on his Facebook page recently. The music, ‘La Dame et Ses Valises’ was taken from Republique Amazone, the first album by the group comprised of 12 singers from West Africa.

The group was formed around the need to stop violence against women not only in the African continent but also across the world. The group played its first concert in October 2015 in Marseille, France, and Republique Amazones was released in 2017.

Many believe that the album’s appearance on Obama’s list shows that their music has been accepted by the West. Nigerian musician Nneka, Beninese Grammy winner Angelique Kidjo, Mamani Keita and Kandia Kouyate are part of this wonderful band.
