Infant mortality rates
The infant mortality rate is an important marker of the overall health of a society and should always be given the needed attention it deserves.
In 2016, the infant mortality rate in the United States was 5.9 deaths per 1,000 live births. Over 23,000 infants also died and this was mainly caused by birth defects, sudden infant death syndrome, low birth weight, maternal pregnancy complications and other injuries.
