Internet users throughout the world have fallen in love with 5-year-old Aizza Angel Yankah, affectionately known as “Adjoa Lil Doc.” BBC Pidgin was intrigued by her scientific genius and academic prowess and interviewed her.

Even as a young child, Lil Doc knew she wanted to work in the field of medicine. When she was two years old, she expressed her intention to be a doctor during a school career day.

Her family, however, said that her interest in diseases began when she was 18 months old.

She told the outlet, “I want to become a doctor because I want to heal and save people. What inspires me about medicine is because I want to get to know how the human body works and find solutions for them when there is a problem.”

She is proficient in gynecological terminology, medical professional abbreviations, and alphabetizing diseases.

“My friends call me gifted and a genius,” said Adjoa, also called “Little Doctor”.

Despite having just completed kindergarten, Lil Doc, who is from Takoradi in Ghana’s western region, has already accumulated over 50,000 Instagram followers and obtained verified status.

According to her mentor, Dr. Andrews Baha, the 5-year-old became curious around the age of one and a half.

Baha revealed, “So even me, I wasn’t in the picture. It was later, I think later part of last year, then something happened, then they had to come to me to clarify a few things and that’s where everything began. Because the interest was there, as a doctor, I love it when people want to aspire to become what we are and what we are doing. So I started mentoring her.”

Lil Doc, in the meantime, mentioned her role model to be Dr. Penelope Adinku, adding, “She’s one of the best female cardiologists in Ghana. I wish to see her one day.”

Dreaming big, the young prodigy stated, “I wish to become the best cardiologist in Africa and the world as a whole.”
