Oil
This is one of the fundamental resources present in most African countries including Nigeria, Angola, Egypt and Sudan.
It drives machinery and a source of fuel to the making of various chemical products.
Nigeria is the largest producer of oil in sub-Saharan Africa. According to the oil and gas journal, the Nigerian government has received over 500 billion US dollars in oil and gas revenues over the last 45 years.
Sadly, these billions of dollars have not benefitted ordinary people but rather the elites. The proceeds of oil exploration and processing have rather contributed to poverty and underdevelopment, in some areas, corruption and even war.
