Hugh Masekela, South Africa

Hugh Ramopolo Masekela was born in April 1939 in Witbank, South Africa and is the father of American television host Sal Masekela. The 77-year-old South African jazz legend is also a talented trumpeter, cornetist, composer, and flugelhornist. Masekela began singing and playing piano at the age of 14. He has  released numerous hit jazz tunes including “Up, Up and Away,” “Grazing in the Grass,” and“Don’t Go Lose It Baby.”
