Long Aprons [Ndebele married women of South Africa]

The Ndebele tribe has been identified as one of the Nguni tribes considered to present nearly two-thirds of South Africa’s black population. Ndebele women like to look elegant and always have a variety of ornaments to show class. After marriage, they wear copper and brass rings around their arm and legs – this signifies the bond to her husband. Married women also wore a five-fingered apron (called an ijogolo) to mark the culmination of the marriage.
