Nigeria’s Grammy-winning singer Tems wrote her name in the long history books on the global stage when she performed at the FIFA Club World Cup Halftime show on Sunday.
Widely known as Tems, Temilade Openiyi was announced as a headliner for the show by FIFA and Global Citizen, who co-produced the global sports showpiece.
The game itself came as a surprise to many, as English side Chelsea stunned European champions Paris Saint-Germain to be crowned World Cup winners at club level.

Nonetheless, the focus for many Africans on the day on social media was how the Nigerian singer captivated the heart of the crowd at halftime in a well-coordinated performance. Tems performed her hit “love me jeje”, leaving many across the MetLife stadium in awe.
Now, she joins an iconic list of global stars like Jennifer Lopez and Shakira who have all performed on the big stage when it comes to FIFA competitions.
This new milestone contributes to Tems’ list of achievements on the biggest platforms in the world’s entertainment and arts industry, as she recently became the first Nigerian female artist to debut at the Met Gala.
Also, the Nigerian singer has been featured on soundtracks for major Hollywood films and is now considered a trailblazer for many young African women who share a similar dream.
Back in February, Tems became a part-owner of the American franchise San Diego, which is an upcoming MLS expansion team. She managed to complete the deal through her company, “The Leading Vibe.”
Success for Tems looks non-ending for now, and many will be keeping close tabs on her progress as she continues to dominate the scene in Africa after her jaw-dropping FIFA Club World Cup Halftime show performance.
